Pure Data and Digital Art
An open source, real time visual programming language called Pure Data was used to create the interactive element of Your dancing man. He didn't just appear in cyberspace, like most things there he was lovingly crafted.
Pure data, or pd was originally created by Miller Puckette after being told he could no longer work on the program max (maxmsp + Jitter). Now the two sit harmoniously side by side providing artists and musicians with the tools to achieve almost anything they can think of relating to:
Games
2D Visuals
3D Visuals
3D physics
3D Modeling
Motion Tracking
Video and image filters and shad ers
Networking
Interfaces
Interactive
Installations
Robotics
mechanics
Rapid Prototyping
live improvisation
A record of a talk I gave on pure data can be found at the Digital Arts and Media Newcastle web site. Also, please check the pure data info site.
